At a recent DKB offsite we were tasked with listing our CPD activity for last year. After the initial blank faces, we all started to recall the new skills, knowledge and experience that we had gained both formally and informally throughout 2018. After a short period of industry, we compared notes and subsequently a competition broke out for who had done the most varied and regular CPD. The lists were both surprisingly long and impressive, taking in everything from Ted Talks to networking events. It was a fun and uplifting experience.
I have since used my notes to update the skills on my CV and identify new challenges and complementary skills and knowledge to acquire in 2019. The resulting list is exciting and inspiring. As with most things, what gets measured gets done and I’m hoping that a proactive approach early in the New Year will pay dividends. In this VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, none of us can afford to stand still!
If you haven’t yet done so, then why not undertake a quick stock take of your CPD for 2018? I promise that you will be surprised by the satisfaction you feel as you realise just how much your professionalism has grown in 12 months. This could form your springboard for success in 2019.
