News & Events
February is upon us and it’s hard to ignore that the shops have been filled with hearts, chocolates and cards for a number of weeks in preparation for Valentines Day.
One thing that has always struck me about February 14th is why anyone would wait for this day to tell someone that they love, like, appreciate, respect them etc? It seems an awfully long time to wait, especially if you only hear it on February 14th. I’m guessing that many of us would be having serious conversations with our other halves if we were only told once a year how they feel about us.
These days, leadership capability and engagement are huge drivers for businesses and a happy and productive workforce. Demonstrating appreciation for our colleagues, teams and people around us is often talked about, but how often do you genuinely do it?
Being appreciated is something that really motivates the vast majority of us, so long as it is heartfelt and sincere. Hearing it once or twice a year at an appraisal is hardly going to make anyone feel valued and motivated to be the best they can be.
We have had such lovely comments and feedback lately, it certainly puts a smile on my face and a spring in my step. So with valentines day quickly approaching I am making a concerted effort to verbalise my genuine appreciation of those around me, regardless of whether they work for DKB training or not. It takes very little effort and if we can make someone feel a little better than they did before we started talking to them surely that is motivation enough for us to do it.
So consider the last time you showed gratitude to those around you and what kind of response have you had? Let’s not wait until Valentines Day to show our appreciation, although it’s still nice to get a card!
